FAQs

Q. What are the costs?
A: The project costs £500.00 to be paid in two instalments. This includes £5 per copy and a minimum first order of 100 copies. The first instalment will be paid at the beginning of the project, the second before it goes to print. The project includes full copy editing, layout design and typesetting, Cover layout preparation, preparation of print ready files and upload to our printer, ISBN registration, legal deposit of copies in the 6 legal deposit libraries including the British Library and inclusion of the book in the Nielsen information database that allows book shops and online book sellers to list the book and of course project management all the way through. Subsequent orders can be as low as 25 copies.

We recommend that authors sell the book for around £10 (in line with normal prices for Poetry collections)

Q. What does the price include?
A: The price includes professional copy-editing, typesetting and design layout of the book, cover layout, print ready file preparation to our printer’s specification, print, production and delivery. In addition your book will be available to all booksellers (book shops or otherwise) as a print on demand title. This means anyone can order your book using the title or ISBN number.

Please note that if you request the book in colour (because of illustrations, etc) the printing costs will go up.

Q. What happens about royalties?
A: We don’t pay royalties. Everything is calculated to keep the price at which we sell books to you as low as possible.
Q. Will Bx3 sell my book online?
A: No. You are encouraged to sell your book on your own web site. It will be available as a print on demand title via the likes of Amazon and Wordery etc.
Q. What size will the book be?
A: The standard size will be 203×133 mm. Page count up to 100 pages. For longer works a tailored quotation will be provided.

Q. What quality of paper and binding will be used?
A: The paper quality will be in line with those used for regular Burning Eye Books c. 70gsm regular paperback book quality paper. The cover will be regular paperback grade cover board printed using four colour process (CMYK) and laminated in either gloss of matt. Binding is perfect-bound paperback. Bx3 editions are available as paperback only.

Q. Will there be an option for ebooks?

  1. Hey. 1. Does this only include physical books? Would it be able to purchase a downloadable copy of the book from Amazon as well as the physical books I buy? 2. Also, if I send you a manuscript, how do I work out if it is 100 pages or less, if all the poems are on A4 Word Document? (This may seem to be a stupid question) Thanks 🙂

    • Hi Louise, thanks for your message. To answer your questions, 1. Unfortunately at this time it will just be physical books with the potential in the future to do ebooks depending on the success of Bx3. and 2. The formatting guidelines are on the instruction page on Submittable. This will be open and available to you on Monday 18th January, so please look out for it and get back to us if you need any more help. Thank you!

  2. Hello,
I see above that in 2016 you didn’t do ebooks. Do you do so now? If not would an author be able to get an ebook done elsewhere as well as a print book with BX3 if they wanted to?

    • Hi Chloe, apologies for the VERY late reply! We’ve had a few of the authors take their manuscripts for e-book form themselves, which we are happy to accommodate as all the work belongs to the writer.
